About To Te Ju Jitsu Head Instructor: Sensei George Theophanous (5th Dan Ju Jitsu, 3rd Dan Karate, 1st Dan Judo). Instructor: Sensei Damian Sorgiovanni (2nd Dan) What Will I Learn? Your first lesson will be for you to get a feel of what it is we do, therefore you will be taken through your breakfalls, and probably through a couple of throws and wrist locks. Throwing and locking techniques form the basis of To Te Ju Jitsu, there are far to many to talk about here. You will also learn striking techniques: punching, kicking and other techniques involving elbow strikes, knee strikes and more. What are breakfalls? Breakfalling is where you learn to fall in a certain way to prevent injury. It involves hitting the ground (slapping off) slightly before your body lands. Have a look in the gallery for photos and video of breakfalls in action. Gradings Everyone progresses at a different rate, so unlike some schools we do not have set grading periods throught the year. Instead once Sensei feels you are ready for a grading he will invite you to grade. Gradings are held during the normal lesson time and most gradings up to brown belt last about an hour. Brown and above normally span several lessons. Syllabus We have a Syllabus set out, however we do not only work on this, we find it is better for the pupil to learn other techniques as well as what is required for their grading. This helps them to get a better understanding of the art, and teaches more moves earlier. You may find that whilst training for your green belt you might learn a technique from the brown belt syllabus. We feel that by introducing other moves earlier you have a greater period of time for them to become 'second nature'. |
